Products Description

Haynes 188 is a cobalt-nickel-chromium-tungsten alloy with excellent high-temperature tensile strength, sulfide resistance, and oxidation resistance, allowing for long-term use at temperatures up to 1095°C (2000°F).

While Haynes 188 alloy strip cannot be age-hardened, its tensile strength and yield strength can be improved through cold working. It is also non-magnetic. It performs well in continuous high-temperature service and exhibits excellent oxidation resistance, spalling resistance, and corrosion resistance, achieved through the addition of chromium and a small amount of lanthanum. Therefore, it maintains good ductility and significantly improved strength even at low temperatures.

Machining and Forming

This alloy exhibits good machinability and can be forged or hot-worked using conventional processes.

Hot Working Specifications: The entire workpiece must be heated to 1175°C (2150°F) and held at this temperature for a sufficient duration.

Cold Working and Annealing: It has good plasticity and is easy to cold-form. However, its cold-forming speed is relatively fast, and complex parts require multiple intermediate annealing processes during cold forming. All parts that have undergone hot or cold working must be solution-treated and rapidly cooled to restore their optimal properties.

Process Limitations

Prolonged annealing at temperatures below the solution temperature is not recommended, as this can lead to carbide precipitation, affecting the alloy's properties.
