Product Introduction

As a procurement professional, when you encounter Inconel 693 (UNS N06693, also commonly known as Haynes 693) nickel alloy strip, you can think of it as "special operations equipment" for extremely high-temperature and corrosive environments. It is not designed to pursue extremely high structural strength, but rather to specifically address destructive problems such as high-temperature oxidation, carburization, sulfidation, and metal dust formation.

The specifications of the Alloy 693 strip in stock are: Thickness: 0.02mm - 16.0mm, Width: 5mm - 3000mm, tolerances (such as thickness ±0.02mm), and surface condition must be clearly defined (such as No.1 pickled surface or 2B finish).

Procurement Specifications and Industry Standards

This is the "technical language" you use to communicate with suppliers; be sure to specify it in the contract and order.

  • General Standards: Strip or sheet material may conform to ASTM B166 (and its boiler/pressure vessel version, ASME SB-166).
  • Aerospace Standards: If used for critical components such as aircraft engine combustors, it must conform to AMS 5998.
  • Core Delivery Condition: Must be solution annealed. This is crucial to ensuring the material achieves optimal corrosion resistance and ductility.
  • Example Specification: "Inconel 693 strip, Standard: ASTM B166, Condition: Solution Annealed, Thickness: 0.5mm (±0.02mm), Width: 100mm".

Manufacturing Process and Challenges

Understanding the processing challenges of Inconel 693 nickel alloy strip helps in assessing supplier capabilities and subsequent costs. Whether purchasing raw materials, machining simple parts, or precision-machined parts, the following points should be noted by skilled machining personnel regarding secondary processing:

Narrow hot working window: The forging and hot rolling temperature range is very narrow (approximately 1000-1150°C). Temperatures that are too low can easily cause cracking, while temperatures that are too high can lead to grain coarsening. This places extremely high demands on the supplier's process control capabilities.

Difficult machining: Like other high-temperature alloys, Incoenl 693 has high hardness and poor thermal conductivity, leading to rapid tool wear. If subsequent machining is involved, this should be specified in the inquiry.

Welding and heat treatment: It has good weldability, but matching welding materials (such as ERNiCrMo-13) must be used. After welding or cold working, solution treatment is required to restore properties: holding at approximately 1150-1200°C followed by rapid cooling.

Key points of the quality inspection process

This section is crucial for ensuring material quality and mitigating risks, and must be documented.

Required Quality Documents:

Material Certificate of Quality (MTC/MTR): This is the material's "identity card," and must include the furnace number, chemical composition spectral analysis, and room temperature mechanical property data.

Test Report: Should include an ultrasonic flaw detection report (for detecting internal defects) and a grain size report (typically requiring ASTM Level 4 or finer; uniform microstructure is critical).

Key Testing Items:

Chemical Composition: Focus on verifying that core elements such as Cr, Al, and Nb are within the upper limit to ensure performance.

Metallography and Grain Size: Assess material purity and heat treatment quality.

High-Temperature Performance Verification: For high-temperature applications, the supplier should be required to provide high-temperature creep strength or oxidation resistance test data.
