Haynes 230 pipe is a nickel-chromium-tungsten-molybdenum superalloy engineered to deliver exceptional high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and long-term thermal stability in extreme environments. Withstanding temperatures up to 2100°F (1149°C), this alloy outperforms conventional stainless steels and many nickel-based alloys, making it ideal for critical applications in aerospace, power generation, and industrial processing.

 

Properties & Advantages

 

  • Outstanding High-Temperature Strength – Maintains structural integrity at 1200°F (649°C) and above, with superior creep resistance compared to stainless steels.
  • Exceptional Oxidation & Nitridation Resistance – Forms a protective oxide layer, preventing degradation in aggressive atmospheres.
  • Thermal Stability & Fatigue Resistance – Performs reliably under prolonged thermal cycling without embrittlement.
  • Good Fabricability & Weldability – Can be welded without preheating or post-weld heat treatment (interpass temp <100°C).
  • Resistance to Carburization & Nitridation – Low carbon absorption (10.3 mg/cm² in carburizing tests at 1090°C) and excellent ammonia resistance.

  • Cold Forming: Possible but requires annealing for severe deformation.
  • Machining: More challenging than stainless steel; carbide tooling is recommended.
