Product Introduction

 

Hiperco 27 ​​(UNS K92650, ASTM A801 ​​Type 2, 1J27) is a high-performance soft magnetic alloy belonging to the iron-cobalt-chromium/vanadium family; it contains approximately 27% cobalt, with the remainder consisting of iron and trace functional elements.

 

It is renowned as the "most machinable" among high-magnetic-induction alloys. Its ductility and toughness are significantly superior to those of Hiperco 50, enabling it to be fabricated into thin strips, stamped into complex shapes, and wound into magnetic cores.

 

Our general logic for selecting this class of soft magnetic alloys is straightforward: for applications demanding the utmost in magnetic performance-provided the geometry is simple and material brittleness is acceptable-we recommend Hiperco 50. However, for applications involving complex geometries or requiring stamped components, Hiperco 27 ​​stands as the only viable option. While its 27% cobalt content results in a magnetic saturation level that falls just slightly short of the absolute maximum, its ability to be bent, stamped, and formed without cracking addresses the practical requirements of the vast majority of engineering applications.

 

Machining and Welding

 

Hiperco 27 ​​is easier to machine than Hiperco 50; however, it remains a high-barrier material, and several strict rules must be clearly understood.

 

1. Heat Treatment-Soft magnetic properties are "forged" through heat.
2. Cold Working-Suitable for stamping, but caution must be exercised regarding work hardening.
3. Machining-Most machining operations should be performed before the final heat treatment.
4. Welding-Optional; however, post-weld heat treatment is mandatory.
5. Post-Heat Treatment Handling-Never strike or deform the material; doing so will destroy its magnetic properties and necessitate re-annealing.
