Inconel 690 Nickel Alloy Strip (UNS N06690)
Product Introduction
Inconel 690, with its high chromium and nickel content, exhibits exceptional corrosion resistance, making it the "gold standard" material for heat transfer tubes in steam generators. We typically deliver in a solution-treated state to achieve optimal corrosion resistance and plasticity.
We typically supply Inconel 690 Nickel Alloy strips in common sizes, with thicknesses from 0.05mm to 10mm. Of course, we also offer other forms, such as Inconel 690 bars, sheets, tubes, and wires. Customisation is usually available to meet specific needs.
The main technical standards for the alloy 690 include ASTM B168 / ASME SB-168. Please contact us for a technical specification sheet or a quote.
Practical Guide to Market Procurement
1. Technical Communication: When requesting a quote, in addition to specifications and standards, proactively inform the supplier of your subsequent processing methods (e.g., whether it's primarily stamping or welding). They may then recommend more suitable delivery methods and even provide processing parameter suggestions, thereby helping you reduce overall costs.
2. Supplier Selection: Prioritise suppliers with certifications (CE and ISO certifications; these can be found in LorkAlloy - About Us), or contact us directly to view the original documents. Always verify their Material Certificate (MTC).
3. Acceptance and Traceability:
Upon receiving the goods, verify the consistency between the quality certification documents and the physical identification, ensuring the traceability of information such as the smelting furnace batch number. For critical applications, consider arranging for a third-party organization to conduct pre-shipment inspection or random inspection upon arrival.
Manufacturing Process and Challenges
Inconel 690 alloy strip exhibits a strong work-hardening tendency, classifying it as a difficult-to-machine material. Special care must be taken: Whether purchasing raw materials, machining simple parts, or precision-machined parts, the following points should be noted by skilled machining personnel regarding secondary processing:
Cold Working:
During cold working processes such as stamping and bending, the material hardens rapidly. Strict control of the deformation per pass is essential, and intermediate annealing (typically solution treatment at 1050-1150°C) should be performed at appropriate times (e.g., when deformation reaches 15%-20%) to restore material plasticity and prevent cracking.
Machining:
Its high strength and work-hardening characteristics make it unsuitable for machining. It is recommended to use rigid equipment and wear-resistant carbide tools, employing a low-speed, high-feed strategy, and ensuring adequate cooling.

Key Points of Quality Inspection Process
When procuring, the following testing items and requirements should be clearly written into the technical agreement:
1. Chemical Composition Analysis: Upon arrival, spectral analysis should be performed to verify that the composition meets the standard requirements, paying particular attention to the content of harmful elements such as C, S, and P.
2. Mechanical Property Testing: Room temperature tensile tests should be conducted to verify that tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation meet the standards.
3. Non-destructive Testing: For strip materials, ultrasonic testing can be agreed upon according to application requirements to detect internal defects such as delamination and inclusions.
4. Metallographic Analysis: Check the grain size (usually requiring ASTM grade 5 or finer) and assess whether there are harmful phase precipitation in the microstructure.
5. Corrosion Resistance Testing: For applications with strict corrosion resistance requirements, intergranular corrosion sensitivity testing (such as ASTM G28 A method) can be requested.
Document Review: Complete material certificates must be obtained. The documents should include complete chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment records (solution treatment), and non-destructive testing reports (if applicable).
