Inconel X-750 bar

Inconel X-750 bar stock is engineered specifically to withstand extreme environments. Our alloy bars are produced in strict accordance with industry standards, ensuring superior material purity, uniformity, and consistent performance.

In the aerospace engine and gas turbine sectors, our X-750 alloy bar is aptly nicknamed the "700-Degree Timekeeper." Its true value lies not merely in its ability to endure extreme temperatures for short durations, but in its exceptional resistance to slow deformation (creep) and performance degradation within the critical 650°C to 750°C temperature range-thereby ensuring the precise operation of critical components over tens of thousands of hours. Choosing this material means securing long-term dimensional stability and functional reliability under extreme operating conditions.

This material is designed for applications demanding the highest levels of precision, including turbine components for aero-engines, bolts and springs for gas turbines, high-temperature fasteners for nuclear power plants, and thrust chambers for rocket engines.

Reference Information

Inconel X-750 bars are available in a wide range of specifications, primarily categorized into two types: hot-rolled/forged and cold-drawn/ground.
Precision cold-drawn/ground bars: Ø2mm – Ø50mm (suitable for automatic lathe machining)
Hot-rolled/forged bars: Ø50mm – Ø300mm+ (for large forgings or machining preforms)

Price Reference
Bars can be supplied in forged, hot-rolled, solution-treated, or cold-drawn conditions; prices and performance characteristics vary significantly depending on the condition. A broad price range we can offer is $75 – $145 per kilogram.

High price problem

When we quote prices for Inconel X750 nickel alloy bars, most customers will say, "This price is too high." Some are even scared off by the high price and never contact us again.

But our response is:

"Frankly speaking, the material and manufacturing costs of X-750 are likely several times those of ordinary high-temperature alloys ($30-$50/kg). It's expensive for a reason, and it remains a rare material even with rising base material prices."

However, we ask you to consider these three costs from a systemic perspective:

X-750 is a precipitation-hardening alloy; unlike standard stainless steels, it is not "ready-to-use" upon purchase and requires precise heat treatment to achieve its intended performance properties.

Solution and aging treatment: The material requires solution treatment at specific temperatures followed by aging to precipitate the γ′ strengthening phase; these multiple heat treatment steps consume significant furnace time and energy.

Difficult to machine: After age-hardening, X-750 exhibits extremely high hardness, making machining far more difficult than with 304 stainless steel; this results in rapid tool wear and low machining efficiency.

Dimensional correction: Deformation may occur during heat treatment, necessitating additional straightening or finishing processes.

Finally, we will present you with Lork Group's "toolbox": a compiled "X-750 Machining and Heat Treatment Guide," a "Typical High-Temperature Performance Data Sheet," and a sample (if relevant samples are available). Additionally, we offer an application case study (de-sensitized) on a gas turbine tie rod bolt for your reference.

Procurement and Production Guide

When purchasing X-750 alloy, 70% of the cost goes towards manufacturing processes. We aim to be your "heat treatment navigator," solving your application challenges for aero engines and industrial turbines.

1. Procurement Specification Recommendations:

"I strongly recommend that you specify in your technical and inquiry documents: Inconel X-750 (UNS N07750) conforms to specific standards; the diameter, length, and quantity are specified, and the delivery condition is solution-treated and aged (e.g., AH condition). Never just buy 'solution-treated'! Its performance depends entirely on precise heat treatment, and this responsibility must be borne by the material manufacturer. We can provide a full range of products from forgings to finished bars."

2. Key Points in Machining and Heat Treatment (Our Core Value-Added Points):

"There are three critical process pitfalls that determine success or failure, which we help our clients avoid:

  • 'Aging' is not a one-step process, but a two-step process: The standard 'AH condition' is 'intermediate aging at 845°C + final aging at 705°C'. Both steps are essential; temperature and time must be precise. Many performance defects stem from this.

  • Welding is a major operation: X-750 can be welded, but a complete solution treatment plus a two-stage aging process is essential after welding; otherwise, the heat-affected zone will become a weak point in performance. We strongly recommend avoiding welding in the design.

  • Machining requires meticulous attention to detail: This material is highly viscous and work-hardens quickly. Sharp carbide tools, low cutting speeds, high feed rates, and sufficient coolant are necessary. We have a database of machining parameters that we can share with your machining plant.

3. Double Quality Inspection Guarantee:

"We provide a complete AMS material report with the furnace number for each batch. This comes from our standard-compliant surface inspection, chemical composition testing, mechanical property testing, etc., based on the finished product. We also retain samples, inspection photos, and videos for traceability. For you, in addition to verifying the report and our quality inspection report, two actions are crucial:

  • Incoming PMI (spectral) verification: Focus on checking the aluminum (Al) and titanium (Ti) content in the Inconel X-750 nickel alloy rod." Content. This is the guarantee of the reinforcing phase.
  • Third-party high-temperature performance sampling (for the first article or critical batch): Samples are cut and sent to an authoritative institution like the Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials for a 'high-temperature durability test'. Although this is time-consuming and expensive, it is the 'ultimate verdict' to verify whether the material batch conforms to the datasheet and ensure your design is flawless. We can assist with the testing.
