Tungsten Rod
A tungsten rod is a cylindrical component made from tungsten, a metal renowned for its exceptional properties. Tungsten has the highest melting point and lowest vapor pressure of all metals, and at temperatures over 1650°C, it has the highest tensile strength. It has excellent corrosion resistance and is attacked only slightly by most mineral acids.
Tungsten rod is manufactured as random length pieces or cut to customers' desired lengths. Other, closer tolerances can be quoted on request. In addition, three different surface processes or finishes are provided, depending upon the desired end use.
Tungsten Rod Surface Finish
Surface: Black, Machined,Polished
Key Properties of Tungsten Rod
- High Density: ~19.3 g/cm³ (comparable to gold or uranium), making it ideal for weight-centric applications.
- Extreme Melting Point: 3,422°C (6,192°F), the highest of all metals.
- Hardness: Exceptional durability and wear resistance.
- Thermal/Electrical Conductivity: It is a Good conductor of heat and electricity.
- Corrosion Resistance: Resists oxidation and chemical erosion.

Applications
Industrial/Machining:
Cutting tools, drill bits, and lathe components (often as tungsten carbide).
Electrodes in TIG welding due to high heat resistance.
Aerospace/Defense:
Kinetic energy penetrators (armor-piercing ammunition) leverage density.
Theoretical "kinetic bombardment" (rods dropped from orbit for explosive impact, though largely speculative).
Medical/Radiation:
Radiation shielding in oncology or nuclear facilities.
X-ray tube targets due to high atomic number.
Electronics:
Filaments in older incandescent bulbs (though typically wires, not rods).
Heat sinks in high-temperature circuits.
Automotive:
High-performance engine components (e.g., valves, turbocharger parts).
Consumer Goods:
Darts, fishing weights, or jewelry molds (utilizing density and wear resistance).
