Monel 450 Bar
Products Description
Monel 450 (UNS N45000) is a 70-30 copper-nickel alloy (approximately 70% copper and 30% nickel) and a key member of the Monel alloy family. It features optimized weldability through the precise control of trace elements-particularly iron, manganese, and sulfur-and possesses unique resistance to marine biofouling, making it specifically designed for the fabrication of corrosion-resistant components for seawater environments.
Monel 450 bar maintains its mechanical integrity even at elevated temperatures and offers excellent resistance to thermal fatigue and long-term durability, making it an ideal material for components exposed to fluctuating temperatures, such as heat exchangers, pumps, and valves.
Reference dimensions for bars
Round bars Φ0.5 – 600 mm Customizable

Key Performance Advantages
Superior resistance to seawater corrosion: Monel 450 performs exceptionally well in flowing seawater, brine, and alkaline solutions, offering resistance to seawater impingement corrosion. Its corrosion rate is less than 0.025 mm/year, with minimal susceptibility to pitting or stress corrosion. In high-temperature steam, the corrosion rate remains below 0.026 mm/year.
Unique resistance to biofouling: The alloy resists the attachment of marine organisms (such as barnacles and algae), a critical advantage for long-term service in seawater cooling systems and heat exchangers.
Excellent weldability: Precise control of trace elements results in welding performance superior to similar copper-nickel alloys; it is compatible with common welding methods such as GTAW/TIG and GMAW/MIG.
Immunity to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking: It does not develop stress corrosion cracks in seawater environments-a key advantage distinguishing it from many stainless steel materials.
Good thermal conductivity and fatigue strength:It offers excellent thermal conductivity, making it suitable for heat exchanger components, and possesses high fatigue strength to withstand cyclic stresses in seawater systems.

Monel 450 is a solid-solution strengthened alloy; its strength can only be increased through cold working, and it cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
Procurement Considerations

Standard Specification: For rod/bar products, it is recommended to explicitly specify compliance with ASTM B164 or ASME SB-164 (standards covering rods, bars, and wire).
Delivery Condition: Explicitly require a solution-annealed condition; a cold-worked condition may be specified if higher strength is required.
Application Compliance: For use in seawater environments, ensure the supplier provides a material test report (MTR) confirming compliance with standards such as ASTM B111.
Quality Documentation: Require a complete material test report that includes chemical composition, mechanical properties, and heat treatment records.
