AISI 4330 V alloy bar

AISI 4330 V alloy bar is a high-strength, low-alloy nickel-chromium-molybdenum (Ni-Cr-Mo) steel classified as a medium-carbon, quenched-and-tempered steel, renowned for its exceptional strength, good toughness, and excellent hardenability; it is specifically optimized for demanding service conditions requiring superior strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance.

Thanks to its alloy composition and excellent heat-treatment characteristics, this material is an ideal choice for critical components across various industries.

It exhibits outstanding effective strength, excellent transverse properties, and superior fatigue strength, alongside enhanced notch toughness and crack resistance.

AISI 4330 V alloy bar combines good ductility with high impact strength; its properties make it an excellent material for rigorous aerospace applications-such as landing gear, shafts, gears, and similar components-with usage scenarios comparable to those of 4340 and 300M steels.

  • Mechanical Properties & Heat Treatment

    Mechanical Properties:

Tensile Strength: 1100–1400MPa (varies with heat treatment).

Impact Resistance: High due to Ni and V; suitable for dynamic loads.

Heat Treatment: Typically quenched and tempered to achieve desired strength-toughness balance. Vanadium enhances response to tempering.

Hardened at 840 to 870°C and tempered at 600°C.

  • Applications

Industries: Aerospace (landing gear, shafts), automotive (gears, crankshafts), oil/gas (drill collars), and heavy machinery.

Key Uses: High-stress components requiring fatigue resistance and durability under extreme conditions.

  • Machining & Welding

Machinability: Best performed in an annealed state; hardened material may require specialized tools.

Welding: Requires preheating and post-weld heat treatment to mitigate cracking risks.

AISI 4330 V alloy steel is generally not hot worked, as it already has good cold forming features.
