Medium-to-High Permeability Soft Magnetic Alloy | 50%Ni-Fe Series | 1J54

Permalloy 54 (1J54) is an iron-nickel-based soft magnetic precision alloy containing approximately 50% nickel; its magnetic and comprehensive properties are fine-tuned through the addition of elements such as chromium, silicon, and manganese. Characterized by high saturation magnetic induction and high magnetic permeability, this alloy is suitable for magnetic components and precision electromagnetic structural parts operating in moderate magnetic fields.

The reference price range for the full range of Permalloy 54 profiles is $30.00–$50.00/kg; final pricing is determined based on order specifications, surface finish requirements, and fluctuations in the international spot market price for nickel (Ni). The minimum order quantity (MOQ) is 50 kg, and the production lead time is 12–20 working days. We will coordinate with the customer to confirm requirements regarding heat treatment, magnetic properties, dimensional accuracy, and quality inspection.

Heat Treatment

The recommended heat treatment procedure for Permalloy 54 is as follows: heat to 1100–1150°C in a protective atmosphere or vacuum and hold for 3–6 hours; cool to 400–500°C at a rate not exceeding 200°C/h; then cool to below 200°C at a rate of at least 400°C/h before unloading from the furnace.

This heat treatment protocol serves primarily as a reference and cannot directly replace the process specifications used for mass production. In actual production, process validation should be conducted based on equipment capabilities, product cross-section, material batch, furnace temperature uniformity, and customer requirements regarding magnetic properties.

Operating environment

Temperature Conditions: The recommended operating temperature range for long-term use is typically -50°C to +200°C. The Curie temperature is approximately 360°C; exceeding this temperature causes the loss of ferromagnetism and a sharp decline in magnetic properties. Consequently, the stability of magnetic properties requires special evaluation when the alloy is used at temperatures approaching the Curie point.

Atmosphere and Medium Conditions: Suitable for annealing in hydrogen, vacuum, or inert atmospheres. While the finished product exhibits basic corrosion resistance in dry atmospheric environments, it is prone to rusting in humid or corrosive media; surface protection treatment is recommended for long-term use.

Stress Conditions: Suitable for magnetic core applications involving moderate magnetic fields, offering a balance of high permeability and high saturation magnetic induction; ideal for small-to-medium power transformers, relays, and chokes. It is not suitable for applications involving extremely weak magnetic fields that require ultra-high initial permeability (alloys such as 1J79 or 1J85 should be selected for such cases).

transformer

Operating Conditions to Avoid: It is unsuitable for high-sensitivity sensing applications involving extremely weak magnetic fields. The annealed finished product is highly sensitive to mechanical stress; any bending, stamping, or vibration will reduce magnetic permeability, requiring re-annealing after processing to restore magnetic properties. It is also unsuitable for environments with highly corrosive media.
