AMS 4914 Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn Strip & Sheet

Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn (abbreviated as Ti-15-3 or 15-3-3-3) is a heat-treatable metastable β-type titanium alloy, characterized by its excellent cold formability in the solution-treated state and high strength after aging. It is suitable for manufacturing lightweight thin-walled structural components, conduits, and other high-strength formed parts.

This specification covers titanium alloy plates and strips with a nominal thickness not exceeding 0.125 inches (3.18 mm).

Tensile properties

For products with a nominal thickness of 0.125 inches (3.18 mm) and below, the strain rate is set to 0.005 inches/inch/meter (0.005 mm/mm/meter) according to ASTM E8/E8M standards, and maintained at ±0.002 inches/inch/meter (0.002 mm/mm/meter) within 0.2% of the offset yield strain.

Tensile strength 102 to 137 ksi (703 to 945 MPa)
Yield strength (0.2% offset) 100 to 126 ksi (689 to 869 MPa)
Elongation at 2 inches (50.8 mm) Minimum 12%

Bending

For products with a nominal thickness of 0.125 inches (3.18 mm) or less, a test specimen with a nominal width of 0.750 inches (19.06 mm) should be prepared, with its bending axis parallel to the rolling direction. This specimen should be bent according to the guided bending test as defined in ASTM E290, with a bending angle of 105 degrees. The contact radius of the test fixture support should be at least 0.010 inches (0.25 mm), and the radius of the pressure bar should be equal to the bending coefficient shown in the table multiplied by the nominal thickness.

No cracks should be observed when the bent specimen is examined at 15x to 25x magnification.

Melting Process & Quality Control

Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn titanium alloy shall be produced through multiple melting cycles in accordance with the applicable material specification. The initial melting process may use approved vacuum consumable or nonconsumable electrode melting, electron beam cold hearth melting, or plasma arc cold hearth melting. Subsequent melting cycles shall be performed using Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR), with no alloying additions permitted during the final melting cycle.

This controlled melting process helps maintain chemical composition consistency and supports the quality requirements of high-performance titanium alloy sheet and strip. Melting records and material traceability should be maintained as required by the applicable specification and purchase order.
