AMS 5510 321 Stainless Steel Sheet
Products Description
321 stainless steel (UNS S32100, AISI 321, German Standard 1.4541, Chinese Standard 0Cr18Ni10Ti) is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel specifically designed for welded structures and high-temperature service conditions; it is also commonly referred to as an upgraded version of 304 that is "resistant to rust even after welding."
Beyond its titanium content (Ti ≥ 5×C)-which serves as the unique "identity card" of Grade 321-its resistance to intergranular corrosion establishes it as the premier heat-resistant performer within the 300-series stainless steel family. We also have a trade secret for welding 321: using 347 welding wire. Grade 347 is alloyed with niobium, which offers superior high-temperature resistance compared to titanium and significantly reduces the risk of "knife-line corrosion" after welding. Only suppliers who truly grasp this critical distinction can be said to genuinely understand Grade 321.
It is worth noting that 321 stainless steel retains the plasticity and toughness of its austenitic structure even at the liquid nitrogen temperature of -196°C, and does not suffer from low-temperature brittle fracture like carbon steel. For LNG equipment and liquid hydrogen systems that require austenitic stainless steel and involve high-temperature operating conditions, 321 is often a more suitable choice than 304L.
Specifications and Status
Lork Group maintains a year-round stock of AMS 5510 aviation-grade 321 stainless steel plates, available in a full range of thicknesses from 1mm to 30mm; the corresponding US standard grade, 1.4541, is also simultaneously held in inventory. We fully understand the significance of titanium stabilization, as well as the specific requirements-such as the use of 347 filler wire-involved in welding Grade 321. All materials are accompanied by Material Test Certificates (MTCs) to ensure full traceability.

Machining and Heat Treatment
The machinability of Grade 321 ranks among the top tier of austenitic stainless steels; however, there are several specific details that must be precisely addressed:
1. Heat Treatment: Solution annealing is the standard requirement, while stabilization treatment serves as a beneficial enhancement.
2. Welding: Use ER347 filler metal and carefully control the heat input.
3. Cold Forming: Be mindful of springback.
4. Machining: It is harder on cutting tools than Grade 304.
Lork Group's Core Strengths
Lork Group positions itself in the 321 plate market as a "stockist with deep material expertise"-distinct from mere middlemen engaged in simple buy-and-sell arbitrage.
Stock Availability: We maintain a ready inventory of AMS 5510 (Aerospace Grade) 321 stainless steel plates, with thicknesses ranging from 0.5 mm to 40 mm consistently in stock. Both the US standard (ASTM A240) and European standard (EN 1.4541) equivalents are simultaneously available.
Technical Support: We possess an in-depth understanding of the specific characteristics of Grade 321-knowing precisely when to recommend stabilization treatments and recognizing that ER347 welding wire is the appropriate choice over ER308.
Integrated Processing: We offer comprehensive, one-stop processing services, including slitting, precision cut-to-length, and surface polishing.
Comprehensive Certification: We provide Material Test Certificates (MTC) in accordance with EN 10204 3.1 and 3.2 standards, ensuring hassle-free compliance for applications across the aerospace, petrochemical, and pressure vessel industries.
