Waspaloy is a nickel-based superalloy, a precipitation-hardened alloy designed for high-temperature applications, commonly used in aerospace and gas turbines due to its strength and corrosion resistance.

AMS 5544 is a specification for Waspaloy alloy. The specification covers corrosion and heat-resistant nickel alloy in sheet, strip, and plate.

AMS 5544 Waspaloy Alloy Sheet is a nickel-based age hardenable alloy with high temperature strength and good corrosion resistance, especially to oxidation. Waspaloy Alloy can be used at temperatures up to 650°C (1200°F), critical for rotating applications.

AMS 5544 Waspaloy Alloy Sheet Heat Treatment is as follows

Annealing 1975°F / 30 mins and Air Cool

Solution Heat Treatment 1825°F / 2hrs and Air Cool

Stabilization Heat Treatment 1550°F /4hrs and Air Cool

Precipitation Heat Treatment 1400°F / 16 hrs and Air Cool

Help FAQ
Common Problem
  • Processing & Heat Treatment

Manufacturing: Hot/cold rolled into sheets, followed by:

Solution Treatment: ~1800°F (982°C), rapid cooling.

Aging: ~1400°F (760°C) for 4-8 hours to precipitate gamma prime phase.

Fabrication: Requires specialized welding (TIG/GTAW) with post-weld heat treatment. Machining is challenging due to hardness; carbide tools are recommended.

  • Applications

Aerospace: Turbine blades, discs, seals, fasteners, combustion chambers.

Industrial: Gas turbine components, high-temperature fasteners, nuclear reactors.

  • Standards & Testing

Compliance: AMS 5544 (latest revision checked), ASTM B637, SAE standards.

Testing: Tensile, hardness, stress rupture, microstructure analysis (gamma prime distribution), NDT (ultrasonic for defects).
