Stellite 3 Pipe(UNS R30003)
Stellite 3 pipe (UNS R30003) is a high-carbon, high-tungsten-cobalt-based hard alloy tubing, a typical representative of cobalt-chromium-tungsten (molybdenum) hard alloys, with wear resistance 3-4 times that of Stellite 6.
This material is produced using precision casting or powder metallurgy processes, ensuring high alloy purity, uniform microstructure, and few defects.
Product forms include seamless tubing, welded tubing, and precision tubing. Outer diameter, wall thickness, and length can be customized to customer requirements. Delivery conditions include casting, hot extrusion annealing, cold drawing, or solution treatment. Surface treatments include pickling or polishing (Ra≤1.6μm).
Typical applications: pump shafts/sleeves, valve seats/cores, burner nozzles, rolling mill guides, bearing bushings, and wear-resistant liners.
Important note: Elongation < 1%, designed for low-impact, high-wear environments. Not recommended for use under impact or vibration loads.
Key Features and Advantages
Exceptional Wear
The high carbide content of Stellite 3 pipe is the fundamental reason for its excellent wear resistance. In the ASTM G65 grinding wheel wear test, its wear rate is lower than that of the commonly used Stellite 6; with increasing load and speed, its wear resistance is superior to that of Stellite 6 or 12.

Excellent High-Temperature Stability
This material maintains excellent hardness at high temperatures: 606 HV at room temperature, 406 HV at 600°C, 330 HV at 700°C, and 217 HV at 800°C. Its oxidation resistance reaches 1000°C.

Good Corrosion Resistance
It exhibits excellent resistance to various oxidizing media such as nitric acid, phosphoric acid, and formic acid, and is also resistant to high-temperature sulfur corrosion. However, it is not suitable for long-term immersion in strong reducing acids (such as hydrochloric acid).

Low coefficient of thermal expansion
Its coefficient of thermal expansion is close to that of most steels, facilitating composite or welded assembly.

Selection and processing
Important Note: Stellite 3 has an elongation of less than 1%, meaning the material is extremely brittle and can barely withstand any impact or vibration loads. When selecting a material, ensure the application environment is one of low impact and high wear.
Machining Notes: Due to its extremely high hardness, conventional cutting requires carbide tools; grinding is the preferred machining method. Because of its high hardness and brittleness, it is virtually impossible to produce a crack-free weld overlay.
