Stellite 4 Bar(UNS R30004)

Stellite 4 Bar(UNS R30004)

Stellite 4 bar is a high-carbon, high-tungsten cobalt-based alloy available in diameters ranging from Ф4 mm to Ф600 mm. Surface finishes include turned, ground, or black (as-forged/as-cast), depending on customer requirements. This material is suitable for applications involving low impact and high wear, such as valve seating surfaces and hot-pressing molds.

Stellite 4 Bar(UNS R30004)

Stellite 4 bar is a high-performance, cobalt-based hard alloy bar that derives its strength from high-hardness carbide phases formed by elements such as chromium, tungsten, and carbon. It is renowned for its exceptional wear resistance, excellent hot hardness, and good corrosion resistance.

Its wear resistance exceeds that of Stellite 6, making it suitable for applications subject to moderate mechanical impact. It is a machinable cast alloy that exhibits excellent resistance to adhesive wear at both room and elevated temperatures. It demonstrates a very low coefficient of friction when sliding against itself or hardened steel.

Stellite 4 alloy bars are commonly used for molds, hot pressing, and hot extrusion applications involving copper-based and aluminum-based alloys. They are also successfully employed in pumps operating in corrosive and abrasive environments.

Selection and Processing Notes

Toughness Limitations

Toughness Limitations

This alloy is more brittle than Stellite 6 and 12 and has lower impact resistance; ensure the application involves low-impact, high-wear conditions.

Cannot Be Hardened by Heat Treatment

This alloy cannot be age-hardened via heat treatment; its properties depend primarily on its as-cast or as-forged microstructure.

 Machinability

Machinability

It is a difficult-to-machine material; the use of carbide or diamond tools at low speeds and low feed rates is recommended.

Welding Recommendations

Welding requires specialized cobalt-based filler wire and strict control of heat input; TIG, MIG, or laser welding processes are recommended.
