Products Description

Lork Group high-quality Monel 401 (UNS N04401 / W.Nr. 2.0842) is a ductile Nickel-Copper alloy with a very low coefficient of electrical resistivity and resistance to a wide variety of corrosive conditions. Designed for use in special electric and electronic applications.

Like with commercially pure Nickel, Monel 401 is low in strength in the annealed condition and can only be cold worked to a maximum of 120 KSI.

Monel 401 is readily autogenously welded by the gas-tungsten-arc process. Resistance welding is a very satisfactory method for joining the material. It also exhibits good brazing characteristics.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment

Machinability

Conventional machining techniques used on iron alloys may be used for this alloy.

Welding

Readily autogenously welded into thin sections. Gas-tungsten-arc welding is the commonly used procedure. Resistance welding is a satisfactory method for this alloy.

Hot working

May be hot worked if needed.

Cold working

Cold working may be done using standard tooling and soft die materials for a better finish.

Annealing

Should be annealed at 760°C (1400°F) for one hour for recovery from cold working.

Applications

The Monel 401 is used in the following applications:

  • Wire wound resistors
  • Bimetal contacts
  • Electric and electronic applications.
