ASTM B574 Hastelloy C-22 Bar
Products Description
Hastelloy C-22 Bar (UNS N06022) is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy designed for demanding corrosion-resistant applications. It offers excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and a wide range of oxidizing and reducing chemical environments.
Supplied in accordance with ASTM B574, Hastelloy C-22 bars are available in various diameters, lengths, and surface finishes, including solution-annealed, peeled, turned, and ground conditions. They are widely used in chemical processing, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and pollution control industries.
Reference Information
Based on current market prices, we can offer $45-50 per kg. However, prices are subject to market fluctuations and processing methods, and are not fixed. Please contact us for detailed pricing and dimensions.
The bar stock dimensions covered in this standard range from 6.35 mm to 88.9 mm (inclusive), encompassing solution annealed, cold-worked, ground, or turned conditions.
We typically supply in solution-annealed condition to ensure excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties. Hot-worked, cold-worked, and forged conditions are also available upon customer request.
Available surface finishes include black, bright, peeled, turned, ground, and polished.

Machining Considerations

Work Hardening: C-22 is prone to work hardening during cutting; prolonged tool friction on the material surface should be avoided.
Cutting Tools: Carbide tools suitable for nickel-based superalloys are recommended.
Cutting Speed: Cutting speed should be appropriately controlled based on the bar diameter, tool material, and machining method.
Coolant: Use appropriate cutting fluid to help reduce cutting temperature and improve surface finish.
Heat Treatment: For materials with significant deformation, the need for re-solution annealing should be assessed based on process requirements.
FAQ
Q: Can Hastelloy C-22 Bar be supplied in customized diameters?
A: Yes. Customized diameters, lengths, and machining services are available depending on production capabilities and order requirements.
Q: What is the difference between Hastelloy C-22 and Hastelloy C-276?
A: Hastelloy C-22 has a higher chromium content than C-276, offering improved resistance to certain oxidizing environments and localized corrosion. C-276 also provides excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in various reducing environments. The appropriate grade depends on the specific chemical medium and operating conditions.
Q: What is the difference between Hastelloy C-22 and C-4?
A: Both are nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys, but C-22 contains tungsten and has a higher chromium content. Their corrosion resistance differs depending on the chemical environment and operating conditions.
Q: Is Hastelloy C-22 Bar suitable for CNC machining?
A: Yes. It can be processed using CNC turning, milling, drilling, and grinding. Due to its work-hardening characteristics, appropriate cutting tools, feed rates, and cooling methods are important.
