Haynes HR160 Nickel Alloy Bar

Haynes HR160 Nickel Alloy Bar

Haynes HR160 is a solid solution strengthened nickel-based superalloy designed to maintain excellent stability in extremely high-temperature and corrosive environments. This type of material is generally used for corrosion testing; most Haynes series alloys exhibit good corrosion resistance.

Product Introduction

The core characteristics of Haynes HR160 material are its high creep resistance at temperatures up to 1000°C and its excellent corrosion resistance protected by a composite oxide film.

We typically supply Haynes HR160 Nickel Alloy Bars in common sizes, with diameters ranging from φ1mm to φ500mm. Of course, we also offer other forms, such as Haynes HR160 sheets, tubes, strips (coils), and wires, which can be customized to meet specific requirements.

The main technical standards for the Haynes HR160 include ASM Ni-396 and HB 8423.7-2023. Please get in touch with us for a technical specification sheet or a quote.

Practical Guide to Market Procurement

1. Price Factors: The price of Haynes HR160 alloy is significantly affected by fluctuations in the market prices of raw materials such as nickel and cobalt. In addition, order quantity, specifications, surface finish requirements, and whether additional testing reports are needed will all affect the final transaction price. Due to its complex alloy composition and the presence of expensive cobalt, its cost is generally higher than that of ordinary stainless steel.

2. Supplier Selection: Prioritize suppliers with certifications (CE and ISO certifications; these can be found in LorkAlloy - About Us), or contact us directly to view the original documents. Always verify their Material Certificate (MTC).

3. Procurement Recommendations:

Clarify Requirements: When requesting a quote, clearly provide the required specifications, applicable standards, required testing items, and acceptance criteria for Haynes HR160.

Assess Expertise: Communicate with suppliers regarding subsequent processes, such as welding and machining, to assess their technical support capabilities and overall supply chain capabilities.

Manufacturing Process and Challenges

HR160 alloy has high strength and a significant tendency for work hardening, making it difficult to machine. Whether purchasing raw materials, machining simple parts, or precision-machined parts, the following points should be noted by skilled machining personnel regarding secondary processing:

Hot Working: It is recommended to perform initial forging at 1150-1200℃, and the final forging temperature should not be lower than 950℃. During hot rolling, it is suggested to control the deformation per pass to 15%-20% to refine the grain size.

Welding: This is a significant challenge in machining HR160. Studies have shown that this alloy has a wide solidification temperature range (225℃), making it highly sensitive to solidification cracking during welding.

It is essential to entrust the task to an experienced welding engineer, using TIG welding and specialized welding wire such as ERNiCrCoMo-1. Preheating to 150-200℃ is required before welding, and the surface oxide layer must be removed after welding to restore corrosion resistance.

Machining: It is recommended to use carbide cutting tools and adopt a "low speed, high feed" strategy, along with water-based coolant, to reduce work hardening.

Chemical Composition

Weight% Haynes HR 160
Ni Bal
Cr 28%-30%
Mo 10%-15%
Si 2.5%-3.5%
Co 25%-30%

The chemical composition of HR160 varies depending on the source of information and must be clarified with the supplier during procurement. The main points of contention are the cobalt (Co) and iron (Fe) content. The furnace batch number is determined by the production standards and smelting method.

Key Points of Quality Inspection Process

To ensure the material quality of Haynes HR160 nickel alloy bars, a complete third-party testing report should be requested from the supplier during procurement. Lork Inspection Laboratory's comprehensive testing program lists the following four key testing items:

1. Chemical Composition Analysis: Ensure the elemental content of Haynes HR160 meets the requirements of the procurement technical agreement.

2. Mechanical Property Testing: Test the tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of Haynes HR160 at room temperature and high temperature.

3. Metallographic Analysis: Use metallographic techniques such as Heyn's Method to evaluate the grain size and precipitate distribution of Haynes HR160 material and check for the presence of harmful phases.

4. Corrosion Resistance Assessment: Evaluate its intergranular corrosion susceptibility using the sulfuric acid-copper sulfate boiling method test according to standards such as ASTM A262-15.
