Manufacturing Process & Fabrication

Seamless Tube Manufacturing

The manufacturing process for Hastelloy C-4 seamless tubes includes billet heating, punching, hot rolling, and cold drawing to achieve the required diameter, wall thickness, and dimensional accuracy.

Welded Tube Manufacturing

The manufacturing process for welded tubes involves forming Hastelloy C-4 alloy strip into a tubular shape, followed by longitudinal welding, sizing, and finishing.

Cold Drawing and Heat Treatment

Cold drawing improves dimensional accuracy and surface quality. Solution annealing is performed as needed to restore material properties and maintain corrosion resistance.

Surface Treatment and Inspection

Finished tubes can be pickled, polished, or bright annealed. Dimensional inspection, mechanical property testing, and appropriate non-destructive testing help ensure product quality.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between Hastelloy C-4 seamless and welded pipes?

A: Seamless pipes are manufactured through piercing, rolling, and drawing processes without a longitudinal weld seam. Welded pipes are produced by forming alloy strips and welding the longitudinal joint. The choice depends on pressure requirements, dimensions, and application conditions.

Q: Is Hastelloy C-4 suitable for hydrochloric acid applications?

A: Yes. Hastelloy C-4 offers good resistance to hydrochloric acid and other reducing environments. However, corrosion performance depends on acid concentration, temperature, and operating conditions.

Q: Can Hastelloy C-4 tubes be welded?

A: Yes. Hastelloy C-4 can be welded using suitable welding processes, such as TIG (GTAW). Appropriate filler metals and welding procedures should be selected to maintain corrosion resistance.

Q: Can Hastelloy C-4 tubes be customized?

A: Yes. Customized outside diameters, wall thicknesses, lengths, and surface finishes can be arranged according to project specifications and production capabilities.

Q: What is the difference between Hastelloy C-4 and Hastelloy C-276?

A: Both are nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys with excellent corrosion resistance. C-4 is particularly recognized for its thermal stability, while C-276 offers broad resistance across various aggressive corrosive environments. Material selection should be based on the actual operating medium and temperature.
